Pear Cake Recipe

1 1/2 cups boiling water

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup margarine

1 cup sugar

1 cup brown sugar

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 cup chopped nuts

2 cups pears -- cored & finely

-- chopped 1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

Pour water over oats and allow to sit for 1/2 hour. Cream butter and sugar; beat in eggs and vanilla. In a large bowl, toss pears with flour, mix in soda, salt, spices and nuts. Fold in oatmeal and egg mixture until thoroughly blended. Pour into greased and floured baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean.
